Interestingly, such statement doesn’t rule out the addition of a battle royale mode into the next first-party shooter games from the platform owner. If you recall, a similar rumor about this had popped up on the net involving Halo 6.
“Millions are playing BR games right now. I don’t want to just build one because others have built them. FNBR (Fortnite Battle Royale) is massive, PUBG is huge, new BR variants being built by some very quality devs,”, Spencer claimed.
“I’d rather support unless we find something special in 1P that’s a different take.”

Again, we don’t see platform holders jump into the battle royale, err, battle royale now, as they are focused on the different business at this stage (single-player for Sony, GaaS for Microsoft) and big publishers such as EA and Activision are reported to be bringing their franchises in the genre soon.
Hopefully, we’ll learn more in the next few months when E3 2018 kicks off in June.
