Nintendo announce that SNES games will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch.
In today’s Nintendo Direct, the company announced that Super Nintendo games will be coming to Nintendo Switch’s Online service. The SNES games will come to Switch Online the following day, on September 5.
At the Direct, Nintendo revealed 20 SNES games will be coming to the Switch online on September 5. The first day SNES games are BRAWL BROTHERS, Breath of Fire, Demon’s Crest, F-ZERO, Joe & Mac 2: Lost in Tropics, Kirby’s Dream Course, Kirby’s Dream Land, Pilotwings, Star Fox, Stunt Race FX, Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force, Super Ghouls’n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, Super Metroid, Super Puyo Puyo 2, Super Soccer, Super Tennis, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Not only is this an impressive line-up of SNES games, but it also includes games that have never been released outside the SNES. Stunt Race FX being on the Switch is the first time the game has ever been released outside the SNES.
The SNES games on the Nintendo Switch Online will also have a rewind function, meaning players can rewind while they are playing to an earlier part of the game. For example, if a player loses a life by touching an enemy, they can rewind before they hit the enemy, and prevent their death.
Nintendo is also offering wireless Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers that can work on the Nintendo Switch. No release date has been given for the controllers, but they will be exclusive towards paid Nintendo Switch Online members.
