The Fatal Fury fighter may debut sooner than expected.

We knew a little while back that Terry Bogard of Fatal Fury and King of Fighters fame would be making his debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this year. But an interesting trademark suggests he could be dropping as soon as this Friday.

This trademark news comes from NanaKarobi_NIN over on Twitter. They spotted a trademark for the newest Spirit Event coming to the game. And in that, there’s a listing for an SNK copyright. Considering that Terry is the only SNK-related character in the game, this indicates his possible involvement. Which, in turn, means his debut within Smash! Check out the tweet for yourself, and the images, below.

The event, titled Spirit of the Sword, starts on Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 4. That gives players three whole days to stack up on goodies from the event. And, hopefully, play with a little bit of Terry Bogard in the process.

Nintendo hasn’t scheduled any online reveal for the character just yet, so this could just be a coincidence. But why would the company go out of its way to register a trademark for a character it wouldn’t feature?

And besides, this isn’t the first time that a Smash Bros. character has popped up by surprise. Banjo-Kazooie, the last heroes to debut in the game, found a release much earlier than expected back in September. And it has been a little while since new blood joined the party.

We’ll see what happens over the next couple of days. But, yes, Terry Bogard would make a fine Christmas present to Smash Bros. fans. Check out his reveal in the teaser trailer below!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
