Vicarious Visions, the developer behind the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, amongst many other Activision successes, has now merged into Blizzard Entertainment. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the move will now task Vicarious Visions to be “fully dedicated to existing Blizzard games and initiatives.”
With over 200 employees within the studio, Activision Blizzard has told the outlet the merger resulted from it realizing Vicarious Visions could “provide long-term support” to its RPG-focused branch. Blizzard Entertainment, most known for franchises such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo, has not yet disclosed which projects the added studio will focus on.
Vicarious Visions already has some experience with MMORPGs, as it lent added support to Destiny 2 on PC. Before that, the developer first drew popularity after developing not just Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, but Guitar Hero, Skylanders, and most recently, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.
As the merger is effective immediately, these franchises will be expected to have new developers, if revived or continued.
