Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII Is Actually Releasing This Year, And It’s Not A Typo

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

This year’s Call of Duty game will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII – yes, you read it correctly, it’s not a typo mistake – this year’s Call of Duty game is the next installment in Black Ops sub-series and it will be called Black Ops IIII.

A new report from Kotaku confirms Black Ops 4 is indeed the next game in the Call of Duty franchise. The news had already popped up on on the Internet during the last few days, but now we even have some sort of teaser coming from an unexpected sports personality.

Yep, because James “The Beard” Harden, NBA Houston Rockets superstar, was wearing a hat with the logo “IIII” en route for his match against Oklahoma City Thunder. After some research, Kotaku learned that was indeed the logo for the upcoming Call of Duty game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII Leaked, Releasing In 2018

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is apparently the next game in the making at Treyarch Studios, the developer of the Black Ops series. Considering this teaser, it is possible that Harden is going to feature as a character in the game.

“IIII” is not a typo. Even though the exact Roman number would be “IV” (Call of Duty: Black Ops 4), it looks like the developer and publisher are turning it to this curious way simply to build upon the Call of Duty: Black Ops III original logo, to give some sort of continuity upon a much successful title in the series.

Check out the official Call of Duty: Black Ops III teaser logo (just in case some of you need it for comparison purpose):

Kotaku also confirmed the game is set in a near future time, which Marcus Sellars, an insider, tell us on Twitter would be around 2020. So very near future, and as already made official by Activision, “boots on the ground” as Call of Duty: WWII.

I would expect a proper reveal as usual in May, with a release in October/early November.
